Stolen Vehicles, Entering Autos

Over the past two weeks, our two World Gym locations in the city have been the site of numerous thefts from vehicles.  In some cases, the vehicle itself was even stolen.  During this time frame, patrons found several of their items stolen from both the locker rooms and their own vehicles while they were completing their workout routines.  Three of these patrons also had their vehicle stolen in the process.

It all began with items left unsecured inside the facilities.  Several of the stolen items in these cases were simply removed from unsecured gym lockers.  The remaining stolen items were removed from several vehicles in the parking lot, which the thieves gained access to by using the unsecured car keys they removed from the locker rooms.  Since they already possessed the vehicle’s keys, the thieves simply decided which vehicle best suited them and drove off without ever drawing attention to themselves.

The Peachtree City Police Department would like to strongly encourage all citizens to take the necessary precautions to ensure you do not become another victim to criminals such as these.  The best way to accomplish this is to ensure that you are securing your vehicles, removing all valuables from sight, and properly securing your items, to include your vehicle keys.  The use of a simple padlock that you can purchase at almost any store, could be one of the greatest investments you make in protecting your personal property.

We also encourage you to remain alert, and never hesitate to report any suspicious behavior or persons.  Remember, if you see something, say something.  You can contact the Fayette County Dispatch Center at 770-461-HELP(4357), or of course by dialing 911 if it is an emergency.
